I often get an earwig as I go about my morning evolutions.
It’s always a surprise what may pop into my head: “jingle bells” in the middle of August, different scenes of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” (“don’t let me stop your great demolition, die if you want to you misguided martyr” – the scene of the trial before Pontius Pilate) crazy stuff!
This morning it was the theme song to the Magnificent Seven.
I haven’t seen the movie or likely heard the tune for decades, but there it was this morning, popped into my head. Over and over and over again.
It’s curious how the brain works. Somewhere in that 3 pounds of gray matter lurks a melody not heard in many years. One day to slips into my consciousness as if it were last heard yesterday.
And yet I often find myself standing in a room, wondering why I had just walked in – “Now what was I doing?” All the while, the strident notes of the Magnificent Seven rolling through my head.
